The ZERO Institute Early Career Researcher (ECR) Network has launched a new Leadership Competition, offering one ECR the opportunity to design and lead an initiative each academic term.
The competition aims to empower ECRs to develop leadership skills, gain knowledge and expand valuable networks including through engagement with the ZERO Institute, the wider University of Oxford ecosystem, and stakeholders across academia, industry, policy, entrepreneurship and beyond.
Successful applicants will develop and deliver an initiative in close collaboration with the ZERO Institute team and ECR Network. Responsibilities will include shaping the programme, identifying and engaging speakers or partners, coordinating delivery and acting as the primary point of contact throughout the project. The ZERO Institute will provide funding, practical support, guidance and promotional assistance, with additional support from the ECR Network.
Possible projects could include for example, industry site visits, skills development programmes, symposia, networking events or activities that connect researchers with external partners. Collaborative projects involving other ZERO Institute groups: Founders Network, ZERO Buildings, Education Programme or Oxford Energy Network, are also encouraged. Proposed initiatives should align with the ZERO Institute’s research themes and mission of driving innovative solutions for an equitable zero-carbon energy system.
The ECR Network has previously organised initiatives including ‘Industry Meets Academia’ days, Writing Retreats for DPhil students, Summer Receptions and site visits. For other examples of ZERO Institute offerings please see a list of current and previous events.
“The ECR Leadership Award recognises the creativity, initiative and leadership of our early career researchers. It provides a unique opportunity for promising individuals to turn ideas into reality, develop valuable professional skills and build lasting connections.”
