ZERO Institute Affiliate

David Howey is Professor of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford and an Official Fellow of St Hilda’s College. He leads a research group focused on modelling, control and diagnostics of batteries, with a strong motivation to address the challenges of climate change. His team’s work spans fundamental advances in modelling, instrumentation, and data-driven methods, with applications ranging from grid-scale storage to electric vehicles and off-grid solar systems.

Professor Howey has published extensively in leading journals, holds multiple patents, and collaborates widely across academia and industry, including with Fortescue Zero, Rimac, Agratas and Bboxx. He is co-founder of Brill Power Ltd. and of the award-winning Oxford Battery Modelling Symposium, and plays an active role in the Faraday Institution’s strategic programmes on multiscale battery modelling, energy storage for emerging economies, and model parameterisation. He serves on the editorial boards Oxford Open Energy and EES Batteries, and is a Senior Member of IEEE and member of the Electrochemical Society.
