Collaborative Pathways Advancing Community Energy for Net-Zero Transitions

Event Recap: Exploring the Social and Political Dimensions of Energy Transitions

On Monday, 09 December 2024, Early Career Research Networks at ZERO Institute at the University of Oxford and the Centre for Sustainable Energy at the University of Glasgow launched a new collaboration, bringing together researchers to examine the social dimensions of infrastructure change and the policy cultures shaping energy transitions.

Key Highlights:

  • Harry Pitt Scott (University of Glasgow) presented on the social dimensions of infrastructure change, exploring how political cultures influence energy transitions.
  • Simon Nazarenus (University of Oxford) shared findings from his project on pathways to community energy in the Parish of Milton under Wychwood.
  • Nicola Tait (University of Glasgow) presented a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) case study assessing whether Glasgow could transition entirely to renewable energy.

This interactive roundtable discussion was co-chaired by Anastasiia Rudkovska (University of Oxford) and William Nibbs (University of Glasgow) and concluded with networking in breakout rooms, fostering new connections among early career researchers (ECRs) across disciplines such as engineering, geography, policy, international development, and sustainable finance.

This event marks the beginning of an exciting collaboration between Oxford and Glasgow, strengthening research ties and fostering cross-sector engagement in the energy transition space.
