Dr Qiance Zhang (Quincy) is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford, funded by the United Kingdom National Nuclear Laboratory (UKNNL) through the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) programme. He also serves as the Engineering Lead for Oxford’s Astrophoria Foundation Year Programme, and holds an Honorary Research Associate position at the University of Bristol.
Before joining the University of Oxford in 2024, Dr Zhang worked in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Manchester (2022) and in the School of Physics at University of Bristol (2023). He obtained his PhD from the University of Manchester under the supervision of Prof Ping Xiao and Prof Philip Withers, studying the fabrication of silicon carbide composites for nuclear energy applications.
Currently, Dr Zhang is investigating the thermal and micro-mechanical properties of TRISO fuel particles for High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactors (HTGR). He is a member of several international affiliations, including the Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA), Member of IOM3 (MIMMM), and serves as the YPN Division Liaison for Engineering Ceramics of the American Ceramic Society.
